Photography and Filming Policies
With certain limitations, the Swedish Colonial Society permits scholars, students and the general public to photograph the Society and its collections.
Any use of Swedish Colonial Society Society images, text and data is governed by the Swedish Colonial Society Society Usage Rights Policy and the conditions printed on the Society’s Permission Request and Agreement Form. Fees, including research fees, may be charged by the Society depending on the extent of the services provided, the rights required, and the nature of use. Contact the the Registrar’s Office for information.
All photography and filming of any kind of the Peter Craig Library is strictly prohibited.
Requests for Personal and Scholarly Photography or Filming
Photography with hand-held cameras only, for noncommercial personal or academic purposes only (defined as without personal or corporate gain), is permitted in the Swedish Colonial Society Society’s exhibition halls. Such photography must not interfere with public use of the halls. All other uses require the advance written permission of the Swedish Colonial Society Society.
Any reproduction or sale of such photographs or visual recordings without the advance written permission of the Swedish Colonial Society Society is prohibited. The Swedish Colonial Society Society reserves the right to withhold and/or withdraw permission to photograph on its premises. Photography may be prohibited in certain exhibitions. All requests for permission to photograph specimens and objects in the Swedish Colonial Society Society collections for noncommercial personal and scholarly purposes must be submitted in writing. Direct requests in advance to the the Registrar’s Office, who will provide a Agreement Form to detail the requirements of the request and assess the usage requested. Unusual requests will require the approval from the appropriate curator or curatorial designee or, in their absence, from the Governor or Deputy Governor(s) of the Swedish Colonial Society Society.
Requests by Members of the Press
Requests for photography and filming for news, publicity and promotional purposes require advance notification. Members of the media should contact:

Requests for Commercial Filming and Photography Shoots
We regret that we cannot accommodate requests for commercial photography and filming in the Society’s Archive at this time.
Photography of specimens and objects in the collections can be provided. Contact the Registrar’s Office for information on availability, usage rights and fees. All requests must be made in advance in writing using our permissions form. Allow 4 to 6 weeks for a response. The Swedish Colonial Society Society reserves the right to refuse requests not appropriate to the Society’s mission.
